Adaptil FAQ

Find quick, expert-backed answers to the most common questions about ADAPTIL, dog behaviour, and how to create a stress-free environment for your canine friend.

How does it work?

Mother dogs communicate with their puppies using natural “appeasing messages” released from their mammary area. These "appeasing messages“ are scientifically called Dog Appeasing Pheromones. They are odourless and are only perceived by dogs. They provide a strong signal of comfort and security to dogs of all ages.

ADAPTIL Calm releases “appeasing messages” to help dogs feel reassured and relaxed in challenging situations.

How fast will I see results?

Many dog parents start to see results for their dog within the first 7 days of use.  However, every dog is unique. Depending on how long the stress-related signs have been present and how severe the signs may be, it may take longer to see an improvement.

We recommend using ADAPTIL Calm Diffuser for at least 1 month.

To get the best from ADAPTIL follow the relevant advice on this website according to your dog's specific problem.

How long should I use it for?

Most dogs will benefit from continuous use of ADAPTIL Calm Diffuser to create a reassuring environment in your home. The minimum recommended duration of use is one month.

When should I use it?

ADAPTIL Calm helps dogs adapt to everyday stressful situations they face living with us. The ADAPTIL Calm Diffuser releases "appeasing messages" to comfort and reassure your dog at home.

It is the ideal solution to help your dog with stress-related issues, such as:

  • staying alone at home (barking, whining, toileting…)
  • loud noises like fireworks or thunderstorms
  • showing signs of fear at home, such as when guests visit.

Where should I use it?

In the room where your dog spends most of their time.

When shouldn't I use it?

  • If your dog’s issues are not related to stress, ADAPTIL Calm will not help.
  • If your dog’s issues are due to a lack of proper training (hyperactivity, over-excitement), ADAPTIL Calm will not help.
  • If your dog’s issues are due to boredom, ADAPTIL Calm will not help.
  • If your dog is housesoiling due to a lack of toilet training, or due to medical reasons, ADAPTIL Calm will not help. It is important to consult a veterinarian to rule out potential medical issues.
  • ADAPTIL Calm will not help and should never be used in cases of aggression towards humans or other dogs. In such situations, we strongly recommend consulting your vet or an accredited behaviourist.
